NFS Community Day #2
8/20/2007 9:58 PM | All Sections | By Canada_Kid

Last week, EA invited the owners of the largest NFS sites to come to EA BlackBox Studios and try out NFS Pro Street. Well not being fortunate enough to attend myself, Sinister over at NFSAddons did. He wrote up a nice little review/preview which can be read by clicking here.

Oh, and I am going to try and keep SpeedWeek as up to date as possible. I know that we haven't been updating as often as we should have, but I'd like to change that. Also, the forums would love to have some real new members, not more spambots.

The Staff of SpeedWeek wishes everyone a happy new year 2007!

We hope you had a Merry Christmas, and enjoyed these days as a contemplative time with your beloved, also to take a review on 2006.
Keep well and fit, and may all your wishes become true.

Due to the overwhelming amount of spambots that have somehow pinpointed our forums, I have disabled free registration.

Basically this means that before you can start posting, an e-mail will be sent to the address you provided and you have to follow the instructions in there to get your account working, and then either I or Canada_Kid will have to approve your account to make sure it isn't a spambot.

On an unrelated note, the uploading system seems to be shot. It looks like it's an internal server error, I'll try to contact Mike about that to get it fixed.

Need For Speed: Carbon Trailer
7/14/2006 8:42 PM | NFS: Carbon | By Canada_Kid

Well, I don't know how long this has been avaliable, but I saw it today for the first time. I thought I'd post it because I am assuming that, like me, not to many people know about it. I'm still not to sure how I feel about Carbon, but the cars are getting better. From the trailer it looks as if we will be able to have more variety in cars, such as the new Dodge Charger. Go watch the trailer (if you haven't already), then post what you think.

Still Alive
5/05/2006 8:43 PM | All Sections | By Canada_Kid

I just figured we let everyone know that we are, in fact, still here. As you probably know, there isn't much NFS news these days, so that is why we don't update the homepage that often. Now, as for cars, files etc, we really need people to submit their cars and files.

If you're reading this, come stop by the forums. Post something. While there isn't much activity now, I think we can change this. I would really like to see this site back to what it used to be.

Review: Need For Speed Most Wanted (XBOX 360)
1/30/2006 12:30 PM | NFS: Most Wanted | By Canada_Kid

Overall Rating: 9/10

A couple weekends ago, I completed Need For Speed Most Wanted. I know that it came out in November, but I just got it for Christmas. Anyways, I thought I take the time to write a review on it. Overall, this is a great game. The graphics are stunning, and the game play is great. If your looking for a good game for your 360, or for any console, this is it. There is a story line to follow, but I won’t get into that here.

Game Play:
The racing is great, and really fun. There is the usual races, like sprints, circuit, and drags etc, and then there is some new ones. There is Tollbooth races, which are basically sprints with check points, and then there is Speed trap races. In speed trap races, you strive to have the highest total speed. There are photo radar locations through out the race, and at each you try to go as fast as possible through them. The totals of your photo radar tickets are added up at the end, and the highest sum wins. The open city is really cool, but its nothing new. If you’re an NFS fan you, you know that it was first featured in Need For Speed Underground 2.

What really makes this game fun is the cop chases. You can select to jump into a pursuit, or just get into one yourself, by breaking the law. Once you are in a pursuit, there are different levels that you can achieve. As each level goes up, it gets harder and harder to evade. The cops get faster, and smarter. They bring out the spike strips, and the helicopters. It gets pretty tricky, but it is still fun.

You can customize your car as in the last two games in the series. There are some differences, but they are minor. One of the major differences in customization, is that you can’t pick specific brands, you just have to go with the package. Also, when you change your car visually, it will affect your police pursuit meter, the meter that dictates how many, and how advanced your cops are. Overall, the game play is tremendous.

Graphics:
The graphics look amazing in this game, I can’t say that for all consoles however, as I have not played it on all consoles. On the 360 however, they are astonishing. The game supports HD, and looks really good with it. Even with composite cables it looks really good. They have some cool effects in this game, like when it rains, you see the droplets on your screen. Also, when you are going really fast, you get the speed effect, which is hard to describe, it is like the NOS effect from the other games, but better. The one thing that does bother me, is the sense of speed. You can be going 376 KM/h and it feels like your cruising at 160 KM/h. Other than that the graphics are great in NFS MW.

Audio:
This section bothers me. The music in this game sucks, or rather its not my taste. When you play the game, you will feel like there is only five tracks that are being repeated, and it gets old real fast. I end up hooking my iPod up, so I don’t have to listen to the music. NFS MW is presented in Dolby Digital 5.1, which is really nice, and sounds great. The sound effects in the game sound are really good, and help provide the feeling of reality.

Overall, this is a great game, definitely worthy of picking up. There may be a few small issues, but the rest of the game make up for those.

Original review was posted at Primo Gaming. But I did still write it.

Released: 1966 Ford Mustang Fastback
1/27/2006 1:52 PM | NFS: Porshe Unleashed | By Gafaddict

Rackharrow has released his conversion of Kracka's NFS4 1966 Ford Mustang Fastback (following up on last year's crack of the NFS5 carmesh).

A little more work could have been used on this car. The model is a conversion of Kracka's NFS4 '66 Fastback - this version of the model even looks better than in NFS4. The performance reflects well that of any muscle car. The handling is OK - the turning is way too responsive (although this carries out through the entire NFS5 game). What's really horrific is the physics. Whenever I hit a gate or crash into something, no matter how big the impact, I either am thrown backward at an immense speed or fly backward through the air and land upside down. The lack of a driver is also a little unnerving

Added: Chevrolet Caprice Cab
9/16/2005 5:13 AM | NFS: High Stakes | By Gafaddict

I recently added the Chevrolet Caprice Cab, a car by Benny. Based on the in-game vehicle Chevrolet Caprice Pursuit, this is basically the police car retextured. There a few other differences, such as an antenna in the back, and new passenger/driver models. An excellently retextured vehicle, this made me feel like I was in an actual New York City cab, the city which I live in.

Download the car Here.

Uploading Fixed
7/21/2005 12:40 PM | All Sections | By Gafaddict

A few users that have attempted to use the uploading system (and admins trying to approve their files) may have noticed that when clicking "Go" the page returned you with a "Directory does not exist" error, or something of the sort.

This was recently brought to my attention, and I have fixed the error. If you have any problems with the uploading system, feel free to contact me by PM or e-mail.
